strategies in the artistic process

What you get

“Strategies in the Artistic Process” is about giving you tools for creation, exploring your own capabilities and potential, and helping you navigate through your decision-making process in your artistic journey. In these three days, we will create our own artistic microcosmos while everyone remains in their own artistic process. Whether you have experience in choreographing and want to challenge yourself, or are at the beginning of your creation process and want to discover, you can come as you are (all dance styles – professionals and non-professionals are welcome).

Feel free to come with pre-composed ideas and visions, but you are also welcome to come as a blank canvas.
At the end of these three days, you will be equipped with movement material documented in various ways, strategies, refined ideas, and a process that can help you kickstart your next project.
Get ready for deep dives, reflections, turn-arounds, and discoveries.

Workshop Overview
Day 1: Exploration and Research

What’s the plan?

We will start by exploring our endless amount of ideas and how to structure your artistic process to support the vision. We’ll raise some big questions, start with the smallest elements, and commit to those little things. We will engage in physical research, reflection, document our progress, and cultivate a collaborative space. Plus, we’ll talk about how to use inspiration effectively, get ready for when creativity really starts flowing, and what to do if we feel like losing momentum. This day is about setting a good foundation and opening the creative gate.
What to bring: A recording device with enough space for 1-2 hours of material and a notebook.

15.00 – 20.00

Day 2: Creating Material

What’s the plan?

This day is all about generating material, dancing, and exploring. We’ll explore various methods and document our creative outputs. It’s a hands-on day, so be ready to bring a lot of snacks. This day is about going crazy without holding back.

10.00 – 16.00 (1 hour lunch break)

Day 3: Composition and Decision-Making

What’s the plan?

We’ll explore different ways to make decisions for composition, analyze and reflect on the material and questions from the previous days, the context, and our overall vision. We’ll raise the question: “What is it that we are looking for?” We will look back at our material and make thoughtful choices to shape our work, such as how to refine our movements and the material. This day is about organizing, decision-making, and repetitions.

10.00 – 16.00 (1 hour lunch break)

We received your feedback and decided to switch this intensive to a “Pay As You Can” model. Our goal is to make the workshop financially accessible, especially for those in the early stages of their career or artistic exploration.

We understand that not everyone can afford a fixed fee, and we don’t want finances to be a barrier to your participation. Whether you are a student, an emerging artist, or someone exploring new creative paths, we want you to join us without financial stress.

You have the freedom to choose how much you can contribute based on your financial situation. Your support helps us cover the costs of organizing the workshop, but we value your presence and participation above all.

You can also decide which days to attend. While we recommend attending all three days to get the most out of the experience, you’re welcome to join us for just one or two days if that works better for you.

Since there are only limited spots, please remember to register by emailing us at office@beat1060.wien. We look forward to seeing you and sharing this creative journey together!
